THAILAND

Petanque Association of Thailand, (PAT)

Since a long time Petanque is well known in France and in Europe.
Petanque spreads off in Thailand in 1975.

The Queen Mum, Princess , Sri Nakarindhra, was in Lausanne , Switzerland, closed her house, there a park where people played petanque. She was very interesting and so she began to play petanque.

She said petanque is a wonderful sport for her. That’s why, in Thailand, we name “petanque” : “Queen Mum sport”.

Monsieur Sriphume Suknet, 1976 – 1979 was the first president of PAT.
As 17th member of the FIPJP, Thailand is the first Asian country who is affiliate to the FIPJP.

In 1978, Thailand organised the first national championships of petanque.

The national team women were twice world champions in 1988 and 1990.

From 1992 to now, his Excellency, AVM Kamthon Sindhavanonda, private councillor of the king, is Pat’s President. He initiated also the constitution of the Asian petanque and sport boules Confederation (APSBC), of which today 8 countries are members.

In 2003, The Petanque Association of Thailande (PAT) and The Asian Petanque and Sport Boules Confederations (APSBC) organised the Umpire training course for the umpires in APSBC in order to strengthen their knowledge about the petanque rules and they have to pass the written, interview and practical exam so that they could be the umpires in the petanque competitions among APSBC's members. With the cooperation with the FIPJP, we have now 17 official umpires.
